APPLICATION: WORKS WITH SAVAGE 21 RTR, 25 RTR, & 25 SS.
These are the Hot Bodies High Performance Aluminum Shocks. These aluminum shocks not only look good but they also perform great and are probably one of the most durable aluminum shocks on the market. One of the reasons that these shocks are so tough is because they are a copy of the original HPI shock design found on the Savage except with aluminum parts. These shocks also come with stiffer shocks springs for improved handling and performance.
People have confirmed that the parts in these shocks are interchangeable with the stock HPI Savage shocks. That means when you upgrade to these aluminum shocks, you not only get a durable set of shocks, but you also get a bunch of spare parts from the stock shocks! If you do wreck bad and damage a shock, then you can get parts like shock ends, shock shafts, pistons, etc... from the stock shocks and be up and running again quickly (and inexpensively).
TECH TIP: Do not get carried away with the shock oil weight. TOO HEAVY OF A SHOCK OIL CAN POTENTIALLY DAMAGE ANY SHOCK! If shock oil is too heavy, then it can make the shock action too stiff. In effect, too thick of an oil can remove the ability of the shock to absorb and dampen a "shock" or impact. If the shock can not absorb the impact, what happens is this force is transmitted to the rest of the shock and suspension. For example, during a hard hit like landing from a BIG jump, a shock with too heavy/thick of oil will not be able to soak up and absorb the impacts. It would be sort of like replacing your shocks with stiff rods and taking a big jump. Too thick of an oil can negate the "shock absorbing" effect. As a result, the shock can be damaged... broken parts or bent shafts. Other parts of your suspension/truck could also break. You may fill a shock with a heavy oil and work it by hand and think that it does not feel too stiff. However, this is not realistic - it is not when a shock is worked slowly that the thick oil is as much of a problem. The heavy oil is more of a problem when there is a very fast impact - like when landing from jumps - where the thick oil is not able to effectively squeeze through the piston orifice hole(s) quick enough. That is when thick oil can have the effect of "locking" a shock during a hard hit.
RECOMMENDATION: To be safe, we would recommend NOT going over 30wt silicone shock oil in these, and suggest trying 10-20wt silicone shock oil which is similar to what is recommended by HPI for the stock Savage shocks. See how that works. This is a case where MORE (oil weight) is not necessarily better!
VERY NICE SHOCKS!
