APPLICATION: WORKS WITH SAVAGE 21 RTR, 25 RTR, & 25 SS. THIS IS ALREADY INCLUDED WITH THE SAVAGE 25 RTR TRUCK.
Get rid of that pull start assembly (and the frustrations/blisters that can go along with it), and move up to an easier way to start your Savage engine!
The HPI Roto Start electric start system replaces the Savage pullstarter with a durable metal gear backplate and a handheld shaft driven starter. Starting is as simple as pressing a button. Requires a standard 7.2v rechargeable "stick" hobby battery pack and charger.

Some disassembly of the Savage and engine is required to install the Roto Start. Complete instructions included. HPI says the Roto Start System fits the Nitro Star 21BB and also Force .21-.25 engines. This will NOT fit the Hyper 21 8 Port engine. HPI only says that it will work with the engines listed above. Rumors are that this will also work with other engines, but just remember that for engines not officially supported by HPI, the "try at your own risk" principle applies.
ATTENTION PICCO 26 OUTLAW ENGINE OWNERS!! Ofna has just released some new information for how to properly use the Roto Start system on the Picco 26 Outlaw engine! We even test fit a Roto Start on our Picco 26 and tried it ourselves. It worked great for our tests runs. With a cheap, fully charged 1500mAh battery stick, the Roto Start was able to easily crank over our brand new Picco 26 engine. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT A SPACER BE USED IN THE ROTO START BACKPLATE ASSEMLBY AND ALSO THE PICCO 26 SPRING IS ALSO USED (see link below to full instructions given by Ofna). We spoke with Ofna Tech Support and we were told that any 1/10th scale hex drive wheel hub can be used. In their instructions, Ofna lists their #39298 Hex Wheel Hubs as possible candidates. These should work great, but they are a little expensive because they are fancy billet machined aluminum alloy hex hubs. Ofna told us that any standard 1/10th scale hex wheel hub should work.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not stock 1/10th scale hex wheel hubs, but you should be able to find these (even plastic ones) inexpensively at a local hobby shop. Also, Ofna says that just about any spacer that is around 5.5mm thick and fits within the hex pocket in the Roto Start backplate assembly should work. Just make sure that you have a hole through the center of the spacer so that the small Picco 26 spring can be used in the Roto Start backplate assembly. We are sharing this information to help our customers. As stated by Ofna on their web site, we also must state "TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK" when using the Roto Start on the Picco 26 Outlaw (or any other engine not specifically listed as supported by HPI).

REMEMBER: HPI only recommends the Roto Start for the Savage 21BB and Force .21 - .25 engines. USE ON OTHER ENGINES AT YOUR OWN RISK! Do not expect HPI, an engine manufacturer, or any other company to warranty your experiments!

Some one in a position to know within HPI shared with us that even though the Hot Bodies Jump Start and HPI Roto Start look to be the same, there are some subtle internal differences on the HPI Roto Start. Both units are made by the same manufacturer, but HPI specified some slight internal changes/improvements on the Roto Start. We do not know exactly what those slight changes are. In any case, we decided that we would only stock the HPI Roto Start system.
PLEASE NOTE: You need to use a good, fully charged battery pack with this. Do not expect this electric starter to work very well on a new (tight) engine if you use an old battery pack that can not hold a good charge. Batteries with a higher mAh rating should give better results. Just for reference, a typical low cost 7.2V battery stick is rated at 1500mAh. A good, newer 1500mAh battery pack should work fine - we tried one successfully. Higher mAh rated batteries should give a little extra saftey margin for extra starting power. By the way, we do not sell battery packs.
